THERE WHEN WE ARE NEEDED MOST
This morning we received not one but two support requests from The Beacon in Catterick.
They have two formerly homeless Veterans living there at present, both of whom have hit hard times and are in desperate need of help for food shopping and clothing.
Veteran 1 served for one year before leaving to start a family. Sadly things did not work out for him and he found himself homeless. Thanks to The Beacon, he was given a roof over his head and is already training for work. As is often the case, there will be a gap before he receives his first benefit payment and cannot afford food shopping or some new clothing which he desperately needs.
The Veterans Charity has made sure that TOMORROW, he will have all he needs to move forward.
Veteran 2 served for just under 4 years in The Rifles Regiment and was medically discharged with a leg injury in 2013. He has regained medical fitness and hopes to reenlist very soon.
However, at present, he is struggling financially as his benefits are being 'reassessed' meaning he has nothing to buy food shopping or sports clothing which he desperately needs to be able to undertake the necessary PT to get his fitness up to the high standards of the British Army.
We are delighted to say that we have been able to sort food shopping and new clothing and footwear for this proud Veteran as well and he will be taking delivery TOMORROW.
The items we provide may seem very modest to many and in fact, the cost of these items is no more than £250 for both Veterans.
However, when faced with the dire situation of not knowing where your next meal is coming from and having to wear clothes full of holes and trainers held together with tape, being able to have these items provided with a minimum of delay can ,make a huge difference to your mental wellbeing and outlook for the future.
Simply knowing someone is there to help, knowing someone 'has your back' means everything to Veterans who are facing hardship and distress.
The Veterans Charity - No red tape, no politics, just support!
