MILITARY CHARITIES WORKING TOGETHER TO SUPPORT OUR VETERANS
On Monday 15th August, we received a call from Help for Heroes who have been working with a former Royal Artillery Veteran for the past year.
The Veteran served from 1965 to 1974 and has declining health which sadly has confined him to a wheelchair.
After a long wait, he and his wife have been offered suitable housing in the form of a bungalow. They're looking forward to moving into an appropriate property - especially as there will be a private garden for their two dogs.
They were due to move in that Friday however the property did not currently have a cooker or any carpeting. They were having to use the little savings they have to fund the removal costs.
Help for Heroes have worked to find a solution for their carpeting needs and asked The Veterans Charity if we can assist with urgently sorting a cooker as we work so quickly.
After speaking at length to the veteran and assessing his situation, we placed an urgent order for a brand new gas cooker which has being professionally installed by a Gas Safe engineer on the Saturday, meaning that he and his wife were only without a cooker for one day!
The Veterans Charity focuses on providing immediate needs support like food shopping, clothing, household items and furniture to Veterans who face extreme hardship.
Our unique approach means that the vast majority of cases are turned around within as little as 48 hours from the first contact.
Danny Greeno, CEO of The Veterans Charity said “We are very proud to work alongside other military charities and it is wonderful to see Help for Heroes providing help where they can to older Veterans who now face problems due to illness or injury. We look forward to working with Help for Heroes on other urgent and deserving cases such as this one, in the future.”
Claire Barnes, Head of Grants at Help for Heroes said: "We'd like to thank The Veterans Charity for their generous support which has made such a difference to this man's life. We are very grateful and look forward to working with The Veterans Charity again."
