2018 - another amazing year!
Last year proved to be another record-breaking year for The Veterans Charity with demand being even higher than in 2017.
We completed an incredible 504 cases during 2018 - more than we ever have in a single year before and the demand so far in 2019, shows no signs of slowing.
In order to meet this extraordinary demand, our team have been working hard than ever to raise the vital funds that we need to provide such support.
In May, we hosted The Forces March 2018 which was the ninth consecutive year that we have held this amazing endurance event. As always, and despite very high temperatues on days two and three, the participants excelled with the majority of them mamanging to participate in all five days of the challenge, walking or running from Ilfracombe on the North Devon coast all the way to Bulford Camp in Wiltshire.
At the beginning of the summer, we began a refit on The VC Trailer to improve the look and feel as well as enhancing the welfare area so that we can host Veterans for a brew and a chat at events all over the UK. After a few week's hard gratf, the trailer was ready for it's first outing of the year to the North Devon Show and then Wings and Wheels. We were delighted that the trailer was such a big hit with everyone who came to see us. Keep an eye out for it at many more events in 2019!
In November, the charity had it's first ever Tattoo Day thanks to amazing support from 14 Tattooing in Ilfracombe. Studio owner, Chalky, invited four fellow artists who travelled from far and wide to give their time and talents on the day, providing a staggering number of amazing tattoos to the dozens of people who queued to support VC and get a new ink. Over £4000 was raised on the day!
Late in the year, we began to plan our usual Christmas Hamper programme when we provide special Christmas food shopping packages and gift hampers to those we have supported during the year who will sadly be struggling against hardship during the festive season and face the prospect of a very bleak Winter indeed. We were delighted to be chosen by The Sunday People as the charity being supported by the Heroes Christmas Appeal. The paper ran a series of articles throughout December which highlighted the work we do at Christmas and how our rapid intervention makes such a difference to those we support.
2018 was a remarkable year for The Veterans Charity and we would like to thank everyone who has supported us during the year. We have many exciting plans for 2019 including the Run To Pegasus and a very busy schedule of summer events and of course, our Christmas campaign which we hope to make bigger than ever.
As always, delivering immediate needs support to our Veterans will be at the very heart of everything we do!
To our supporters, amazing Volunteers and of course, to our Veterans - THANK YOU!
